I got this little Masscool media box from a friend that I have connected to an amp in my bedroom and am using the analog out on it to connect to the amp but the analog option is not very good so just need a cheap DAC that has optical in with RCA L/R out to isolate the amp from the media box. Any suggestions? Under fifty bucks would be great.

This would be perfect but they are out of stock and are a bit more than $50.00.

Maybe a cheap DVD player with optical in would do me. I saw a Philips DVD player at Walmart for $30.00 CAD but didn't check to see if it had optical in too.

DVD player for CD?
Maybe it is cheap enough, but sounds a lot worse than the old CD players.
Find a good CD player from the secondhand market is a better choice.

Someone is selling a stock Zero DAC here: http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f43/st...ro-dac-386589/

I know it wouldn't be $50, but its the cheapest and best thing I can think of. Anything cheaper wouldn't really be worth it IMO. I mean come on, optical out to use the DAC in a DVD player from Walmart?

Hey, it's just to isolate the amp from the media box and not for audiophile sound quality. My better setup is in my living room. The DVD or CD player would be just used as a dac and not for the cd playing capabilities. Although, I would try it out. The media box has mp3s on it so don't need the cd/dvd player. None of those cheap ones have digiatal in anyway, just out. I could move my EMU 0404 to my bedroom and look for a better DAC for my other setup. That 'DAC In A Box' I listed up above is exactly what I need really so should look for another source to buy one.
