Hey guys!

I've just bought a new plasma tv and the built-in speakers really suck. So I was looking at the speakers I actually own in my basement and just found my good old Dayton Audio BR-1 ( 8 ohms 100 watts): http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?partnumber=300-640&utm_campaign=bazaarvoice&utm_medium=SearchVoice&utm_source=RatingsAndReviews&utm_content=Default

I want to use them with my new tv.. a simple 2.0 setup ..but I first need a good amplifier/receiver. I'm not looking to add a sub and I'm not going 5.1 .. what are my options considering I'm willing to spend around 200-300 dollars to drive my BR-1
Any idea/suggestions? I just want to keep it simple and have the best quality for the price.

thanks a lot!

A used NAD integrated such as this one might suit you:

or maybe this one:

Thanks for the suggestions Yage
I'm kinda confused with all the options I can take tho...

If I want to watch tv/music and use my blu-ray/dvd players for movies,  which path should I take.  -AVR, -Stereo Receiver, -Integrated Amplifier, -Amp + pre + source?? Something that comes with a remote control would be great but i want the best sound quality possible.. does it exist?

If you have a surround setup you'd need a receiver or preamp / processor in order to properly decode the signal (Dolby Digital, etc.) and send the sound to the right speakers. The popular thing to do, it seems, is to connect the HDMI output from the player to the HDMI input of a receiver and use its DAC for decoding the audio (and sometimes video) signal. I've read that HDMI is less than ideal for transporting audio in that it introduces a lot of jitter (see http://www.avsforum.com/t/1181755/ayre-dx-5-bluray-player/1050#post_22849472) so it might still be best to use the analog output from your player. Some TV's also have an audio output for connection to an outboard amp - but I've noticed that if the TV program is broadcast in HD, that output is muted, probably for copyright protection reasons.

With that in mind and since you seem to only want a stereo setup, then it probably makes more sense to go the integrated amp route. Since companies only have limited resources to design and manufacture a product, it stands to reason that the simpler innards of an integrated amp will let the company use better quality parts resulting in improved sound over a receiver at the same price. Separates (preamp + power amp) can result in better performance, but at a higher cost. Sometimes it's worth it, sometimes not - you'll have to audition and decide for yourself. I've heard a lot of great equipment over the years and have found that an integrated amp can sound just as good, if not better, than a preamp / power amp combo.

Hope this helps!

Funny that you should need something like that. I happen to have exactly what you are looking for: a Marantz SR4021. 80 watts per channel and sick sound quality. PM me and I will sell it to you for a good price. It's in like-new condition and I have the original box and everything.
