Picked up some decent bookshelf speakers and I would like to hook them up to my Dell Dimension 5150 Desktop.
Soooo .... need an amp. Does not have to have a DAC but if if does, swell.
Not looking for anything great, just adequate.
Does anything exist that's decent for $100 or less?

Or is there another option?

used home stereo for home theater. people are upgrading (sigh) to get that true-hd junk and so you can get used 'good' receivers for a song. they will have decent (enough) internal dacs, preamps, digital volume controls and amp sections.

I'm positive you can find stuff in the $100 range used. yamaha, HK, onkyo, etc.

Tweak City Audio has a little class D amp called Gizmo. 25 wpc at 4 ohms, not sure what it does at 8 ohms.

The new crop of little class D amps are intriguing. A desktop audio friendly size. I have not yet heard one though.

Search Ebay for "Lepai", decent little tripath for cheap...and good Engrish too.

Qinpu Q1 is 39(59 after shipping) dollars on head-direct, it will drive 8ohms speakers. Also Q2 is 79(99 after shipping).

X2 on the Gizmo. It replace my cherished T-Amp ($29), and it's got plenty of juice, and also has a sub-out if you ever need it. I use it with two vintage KLH speakers and my Zune (via dock), and it's fantastic. Never hooked to my PC, but if you can still get one, do. Nice, sturdy box, small. Excellent speaker connections, etc.
