I have never bought a amp and have no idea what to look for. All I know is that I really have to crank the volume up to get only moderate sound on these. Any info on amps to help a newbie would be great too. Thanks.

But please ask yourself, what is your budget and what is your music preferences.
You need to understand that amp is not just to crank the volume.

Canamp was a very nice improvement over what comes out of an iPod. There are usually ones for sale in the forums every 2 weeks or so.

If that's the "one" to get then I could probably stretch my budget. I will mostly listen to Metal but my range of music is across most genre's.

I want to watch Blu-rays with my headphones too. What's the best way of getting a "surround" effect from stereo headphones? Is there a way to get DTS MA for example on my phones?
