I need to buy a couple of headphones - 2 or 3 - as presents to go with some cheap portable CD players. When using some good cans powered by external headphone amp and using PCDP's line out, the sound is quite acceptable. But the headphones that come with CDN$30 - $50 PCDPs are atrocious. I have some $1 buds from dollar stores that I use for experimenting and the sound is similar.
I'm just trying to see if there's anything in the $20-30 Canadian range that is borderline acceptable for listening. Some earbuds maybe. I used AIWA earbuds before and they were so-so, but I don't know where to buy them these days. Anyway, I'm not looking for even fair sound, just something that will not make you want to puke as soon as you plug them in.
I'd love to get some Sporta Pros, but they're just so damn expensive here, and I'm definitely keeping my pair.
