need advice on how/which to buy

i've looked through every single link and i've struck out

i need a 200uf 100volt cap. (+-10%?) for soldering inline into some speaker cable ( this is to filter out the bass so i don't blow my speakers)
so what cap should i get and where?
and what kind of solder?
and do i have to cover the bare wire after soldering?
with what?
and where do i get a soldering kit?

Shouldn't there be some kind of x-over circuit or something for this?

Solder: Eutectic solder/ Cardas Quad Eutectic/ WBT Silver solder should do fine
Yes, cover up the bare wire.
Electrical tape or teflon tape will do fine.
Your local Ratshack or equivalent..

I think what you are looking for is called a Bass Blocker.
They make them for different frequencies.

If you just need to connect the cap inline, Maybe you only need to use a butt splice (crimp-type connector) to eliminate the need for shrink tubbing, solder, soldering iron, and a little bit of your time.

hmm...
i'm not sure what a x-over circuit is...
and also the bass blockers seem to be for car audio. i'm looking for something that blocks 80 hz down.

The bass in your car bears a striking resemblance to the bass in your house

. They will work just fine.

A crossover is a filter network that passes the appropriate frequency range to the appropriate drivers in your speaker system. And no, they don't typically block very low frequencies from your woofers, unless you have a sub.

hmm... that case this sounds pretty sweet.
so it's not quality degrading at all right?
now i only have to find one that blocks to 80 hz only or thereabouts.
and with the butt splices, those won't be bad for sound Q either rite?
and one last thing, these all seem to be for car audio, how would i end up connecting these to my amp and normal speakers with +- inputs/outputs?

i think i'm going to go the solder/ heat shrink wrap. since i was eventually planning to try builidng my own amp i mite as well buy a solder now and practice
