Hi, I'm barely starting to get into "head-fi" and I'm also a college student. Right now my equipment stands with the E2, grados, cd780, and a few portable devices. I was looking for a headphone amp, and I found the " DB-9 Headphone Amp With ALPS Control" on audioadvisor on clearance. I mean, I'm a pretty poor college kid, and I have to work many hours to get this, but I was wondering if any of you can tell me more and if it's worth it? My budget is around 200 (not a lot.. I know). Also, if you happen to also have a headphones amp lying around and collecting dust, feel free to PM me as well.

Also- I I know home theater a lot better... but still... is a preamp necessary?
