I'm looking for a second headphone and I hope you can give me some advice.
I currently have a alessandro ms-1000. I really like it but I want to try something else also.
I'll use it in combination with my forte F50A DAC and my own-build OTL tube amp.

The music I listen to is; Eagles, Dire straits, 3 doors down, coldplay, John mayer, Keane, Don Henley, Eric Clapton, REM, Toto, supertramp, Sting, Onerepublic and I probably forget some now.

The budget is around 200 EUR= 250 USD and I don't mind buying a used pair.

What headphone would you suggest, and could you explain why you would choose that headphone.

Many thanks already.

maybe try closed cans since you already have a pair of open? for that price you might be able to find a pair of denon d2000 which are regarded well here in the forum. what's nice about them is that they also get very very good if you apply the markl mod, which is quite easy to do and is talked about extensively here on the forum.

also around that price range are the excellent sennheiser hd600...

do you have any need for closed phones? are you interested in getting a dedicated desktop headphone amplifier? what do you like and dislike about the Allesandro?

As a counterpoint, I think the Audiotechnica AD900 would be a great companion headphone. Maybe a Beyerdynamic DT770 would go well too, especially if you want closed, but it needs some sort of amp, as its quite the power hungry little bugger.

I don't need a closed headphone at the moment and the amp described in the OP is actually a headphone amp.
I really like the alessandro, but maybe it lacks some body in the sound and it can get fatiguing and cousing discomfort after some time.

+1 on HD600. It will be different, not fatiguing, great body to the sound. + it should work nicely with your tube amp.

if you can find the hd580's for sale used under 200usd go for them, but if money isn't too much of a factor or want to buy new then the hd600's can't really be beat as an all-round winner. it is comfortable to wear, upgradeable with a whole slew of after-market cables and even woody upgrades. its a modular system so you can easily replace the cables, ear pads, grills... even the drivers with a little work.

after reading your replies and re-reading the OP(don't know how I missed the amp and dac bit, doh), I'd recommend AD900's or HD600's. Both are extremely comfortable, both are very smooth sounding and non-fatiguing. AD900's are probably a touch more energertic and forward sounding while HD600's are maybe slightly more natural sounding.

Sennheiser hd6x0 seems like the obvious choice.
I don't know why you'd want a phone like the d2000 unless you need it to be closed.

btw, I will be comparing ms1000s to hd650, k701, and gs1000 in a review to be posted in a couple days.

Apart from MS1000, I can do that in 20 minutes :p

Given your listening tastes, I reiterate my recommendation for the D2000. For rock/pop genres, I strongly preferred the D2000 to the HD600, and preferred the HD600 to the HD650.

Don't misunderstand me, the HD6x0 are excellent headphones--and I think the HD600 is the better choice between the two for starters, but they are simply not the best for the genres you list, IMHO, nor for the type of listening you might do given your stated musical preferences. If you have a capable amp, like the Darkvoice 337, the HD650 might do the trick, though.

Just one man's opinion! : )

EDIT:
I just reread your post and noticed that you will be driving the headphones with an all-tube OTL amp. In that case, I would recommend the HD600. The low impedance D2000 do better with a solid state or hybrid amp.
