Ok I looked in the manual for my receiver and I think the rated output of the headphones jack is 1.2V (I may be looking at line output level instead ??). But if this is the case do I really need a separate amp to drive a good pair of headphones?

oh boy.. what does the MW @ XXohms say??? The V6's can be powered by anything, BUY THEM!!! nothing can compare for the price! V6!@CDW for $56

Sorry I don't see anything in the format you specified a1leyez0nm3. The only power rating in Watts that I see are for the speakers. Guess its not specified then?
