Ok, here I am again...

I´m still not 100% sure if the AV420 is the pap I should buy. I ordered it already, but the shop called and told me its not available yet (but they could deliever it in 1-2 weeks).
So 14 days left for me to make a decision.

The two main things I´ll need for the the next vacation is:
1. hdd mp3-player
2. some sort of image-tank

On my list are:

ARCHOS AV420 - 20gb - can be used as an image tank - can playback and record movies

Thomson Lyra PDP 2860 - 20 gb - pretty much the same as the archos - but bigger and no cradle and no remote?

ARCHOS Gmini 220 - 20 GB - quite small

And now the ones that can´t be used as an image tank - I would have to buy an x-drive 2 or somthing like that to store the photos from my digicams sd card:

iRiver iHP-120-S - 20 GB - small
Creative Jukebox Zen Xtra - 30 GB - big
PHILIPS HDD100 - 15GB - quite small - looks great - but "only" 15gb
Rio Karma - 20 GB - quite big - nice features
Creative Zen Touch - 20 GB - looks boring

- big (for an mp3-only player)
Apple iPod 4G. - 20/40GB - Lots of accessories - ...

Don´t forget I would have to buy the X-DriveII for the above player that´ll cost additional 90$

Please help me

Where do you get 'quite big' for the Rio Karma? It is barely larger than an iPod in mass, and weighs less than an iHP...

Anyway though, for any of the ones that you would consider an X-DriveII, look at which ones have USB MSC capabilities (iHP does, Rio's is in progress, and don't know for sure about the others), then get one of these

Interface wise I have not heard anything good about the Philips, and I am not a fan of RCA's crap. From a sound quality perspective go with Rio for flexibility (5-band parametric eq), Creative for sound level, and Apple for not doing anything too bad

Can you give us some more details as to what your other requirments are? What other purposes will it serve, and can you rank those? ie Usability, sound quality, accessories, battery life, etc etc etc

Normally those nice things are not available here in germany, but guess what
smily_headphones1.gif
this little wonder is available here - for only 33$
I´m still not sure if I should get the av420 - its kinda big and quite expensive - I might aswell get an ihp 140 or and ipod 4g with 40gb

oh about the size of the karma. i think its big, well not really big but the dimensions are kinda awkward if you want to put it into your pocket.

Why not the iRiver H320? You can hook it up to a camera or cardreader directly. USB-on-the-go, I think it's called.

The download from camera to H320 is quite slow, but if you got two cards, it shouldn't be a problem.

Warehouse123.com got it ($399), and you might have it in a week.

Lately, I noticed that they are selling the H340 for US$575.00. I haven't decided getting H320 or H340. I have about 15GB songs, what do you guy think?

By the way, can Olympus Camedia AZ-1 connect to H320/340 directly?

Well, you get more storage per dollar, but it's quite expensive.
You got 15 gb of songs today? What about tomorrow? It's always wise to plan ahead... :-)

It depends. If the AZ-1 needs to install drivers when used with WinME/2000/XP, then you can't connect it to H320/340 directly. It's only the cameras that are mass-storage compatible that can be used directly.

On the other hand, you can buy a cheap cardreader, and plug that into the H320/340 instead. Problem solved.

I would suggest the SmartDisk FlashTrax, comes in 20, 40, & 80 gig models. Download from memory cards, play mp3's, watch videos and view pictures. Battery life is poor (3 hours tops), but it's an all in one solution.

Here's the 80gig: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/cont...#goto_itemInfo

I don´t think i would take 80gb of pictures in three weeks of vacation
smily_headphones1.gif
and the flash traxx imagetank is way to expensive

i just got one of those syncboxes and its really easy to get the pictures from my minolta g600 to the ihp-140...
