My nano has an audible hiss on quiet passages, or when paused. It is very low level, and only apparent with low impedance canal phones, like the E4c. My first gen mini has no such background noise. Not too bothersome, but still a surprise. Anybody else run into this?

No hiss with my 21ohm UE5c. Maybe you received a bum unit?

I'm surprised that your first gen mini didn't produce hiss. I'm under the impression and personal experience that all my basic sources includ. soundcards have given hiss with canalphones.
