zwer: what's up with the "L" in the russian and ukrainian language, the l shown here is used in ukrainian and the "A" without the line across" is usually russian...i've seen this interchangeably, any clue here?

Russian and Ukrainian alphabets are very much the same, except for only a few letters.

When handwritten, cyrillic letters may look significantly different. That drawing of "L" similar to letter "A" is closer to the handwritten one. So it's just a matter of the font, in both languages : )
