I'm unable to access search engines at this time, but a quick google search will link you to some c541i reviews that talk about the updates in the c541i. If i had access to google, I would surely paste whatever the website said.

The C541i was the more recent edition, i for improved.
HDCD decoding & CDR reading are its improvments.
But I understand the new C542 is still better at the same price.

Which is amazing, since C541 is a fairly new model.

My 10 year old Aiwa shelf system can play any CDRs I throw at it.

Makes you wonder about the quality of components NAD puts into their products.

I would guess that many CD players much more expensive than the NAD will also not read CDR's. I think it reflects the manufactures attitude towards CDR's.

I think NAD, and similar high priced brands are just skimping on components.

Maybe you're right.

I believe someone here has a 541 and says that it plays CDRs fine as long as they aren't burned faster than 4x. I know that for awhile they were having transport issue that was cleared up with the 541 series and finally totally resolved in the 541i. So I don't know if it speaks to the quality of the components more than the bad design decision to use that transport.
