MZ-E10/N10 spec change!

E909 = 3.5mW x2 at 32 ohms, a tad more powerful than the E900..

Sigh.. My PC1 hasn't turned up yet
frown.gif

Pity, cuz now I don't want it. I've already gotten over it, and it hasn't even arrived.

Argh. Remind me not to post at 2 am.. I have no idea
frown.gif

Forget I said anything
biggrin.gif

To further confuse you, apparently the Japanese E909 is 3.5mW x2 at 32 ohms, the American one is 5mW x2 at 16 ohms.. I thought it was changeable to make 3.5mw at 32, 7 at 16.. But I don't wanna discuss it at this hour. My brain isn't working yet..

Forget I said anything.
Wait. I'll just say 'the cymbals sound like they're there, not hidden away/recessed'

BTW, still got no idea whether rewording it improved anything

Nah, considering my 3.8mW Aiwa rips Sonys away in terms of volume.

And good sound.

A lot of discussion around here has concluded that output and impedance do not multiply themselves that way. And volume doesn't necessarily have everything to do with impedance - there's also the gain of the amp. A famous Japanese mod for Sony CDPs is to change the gain of the headphone amp to up the volume for the ER-4S...

Panasonic's cassette walkmans went from 4+4@32ohm to 2.5+2.5@50ohm to 2.5+2.5@80ohm and now they're at 1.7+1.7 or something... from the 50 or so of their models I've owned, I don't recall sound quality improving, loudness improving, or battery life shortening, hello?

I want you to remember that
a) I haven't heard every MDP out there,
b) I don't have the D22 (and it might be very different from my D66, given the synergy or lack of synergy between the phones and the player)
c) I may have never heard what you consider "real" cymbals,
d) I may be incapable of distinguishing a "real" one from a "bad" one,
and the list continues.

I don't think I said the cymbals sound real... what I mean is that while they tend to be buried inside the wall of sound/noise elsewhere, they stand out more on the DS8, and it's not something you can duplicate by just tweaking the EQ. To my ears the DS8 has very good separation of the musical elements...

But there are also people who find, the noisier the amp, the narrower the dynamic range, the punchier the sound, and they want that for their music collection.

In other words, please, please, please don't take my word as the absolute, and then come back and diss me when your impression doesn't coincide with mine. I revise most everything I say extensively to make sure I'm not overtly subjective - the posts you see here get revised 5 times or so, literally, after they're first posted.

I'm a more of a musician than a headphone listener.. I don't have a clue what to call it.. Sorry.
Perhaps what I mean is they aren't as buried. Argh I shouldn't have posted.
I don't really care how it sounds so much as it does produce sound 100% of the time unlike my E900 which has some sort of motor/lens problem. Probably one of the motors as it doesn't really have a problem loading the TOC.

Leon, I wouldn't bash ANYONE if I wasn't satisfied. It could be a plus. As I could mark it up almost 200% with the unit still appearing cheap to the buyer.

Understand my position: here in NZ, I have easy access to 4 MDRs, and the E300. Those MDRs are N1, R909, N505, N707, none of which I want. So I have to rely on the internet and my GF who's buying me the player... So you see I have to take whats on the internet, and various sources say 'ds8 is good'
I'm still going to wait 'til E10 sound news filters in, but that unit costs a lot more. Refer to sig.

I understand what you're saying, and I agree with it from what you say. I just can't say what I mean.
Perhaps i'll just say 'my taste agrees with what you wrote so DS8 = mine'

And forget the HP jack thing, it's beyond me. Forget I said anything.

just thought i'd add a little more confusion to this problem

Not to be all up in your business with a thread-crap, Leon, but hey -- since you're so pleased with that petite DS-8, and since I'm attracted to it in an unnatural manner as well, I'm wondering where the best deal on said item might be (last time you looked, I mean).

Hi leon, the digital amp is present on the E710:

A guy over at the t-station forums just bought himself an E10, it is too shiny to photograph
smily_headphones1.gif
(he finally got one, and fingerprints show up a lot on it)

DS8 took a turn towards staying in Japan, I think i'll get me friend to get me an E710 now..
You see I can't make up my mind... ever since sony released 'em I've been contemplating which one to buy.. Theres no clear choice but.. I like sony :S

Heh, I've been planning to get a new laptop, and guess where I wound up again - Sharp versus Sony. Might have to get one of the Vaios - they are ugly to me, but they're much more bang for the buck.
frown.gif
A lot tougher than any of the audio decisions I've had to make.

Still no mention of digital amp for the N10

It's got Type S instead
biggrin.gif

Interestingly, the E707s generation has Type R. I thought that was on the encoding side? Or is that just Sony putting more jargon on it?

Crazy Sony.

Now all I want is the crazy logos the E10 displays on it's remote, on the E710...

and woohoo! my PC1 arrived, and disappeared again. No one home to collect it..
frown.gif

It's a JB920 in a prettier package
biggrin.gif
(I think it *might* still have the old dodgy loading system, which is a bummer for my Maxell discs..)

Tina said she's getting a Sharp laptop. I didn't know Sharp made such things :|

Sharp makes some of the prettiest non-Mac laptops around... while they might appear ordinary on the web, they're positively tittilating in person.
biggrin.gif

I might be going with the Vaio though *hmph*

I've given my opinion on the "non-Type-S" E10/E710 thing a long time ago, so I shouldn't repeat myself again.
