Hey guys I am not a huge audiophile. But here is my journey:

I always was fascinated with good headphones. So I bought some DT770s (Pro 80 ohm) and as my first > $20 headphones and HATED them after a few weeks. The sound of the music felt hollow for some reason.

Then I got the oppertunitiy to try my friends Sony MDR-1A's and I was like that sounds so much better. I think it was the bass that I was missing (Even though the DT770s are supposed to be high bass, I thought)

So I got boom 2 for the mac and set the settings to:

Which is just stupid amounts of bass but everything sounded GREAT! (Thats 8-6 db of amplification on the lower ranges)

I also got a bluetooth adapter to top the whole thing off and am now walking around looking like:

So here is my real question:
What is wrong with me? Am I just a super bass head? I am really digging the DT770s with this setup. But stock without eq I hate em.
Is there a class of head phones that I would natively like?

This is me at first. As I first listen to headphones with boomy bass, I thought it sounded awesome (especially coming from cheap headphones). You might wanna get an amp to improve the sound. It's gonna make a lot of different.

I am sorry, maybe I missed it, but what amp do you have for the DT770 Pro 80 ohm?
I don't have an amp. Since they were just 80 ohms I thought I could go amp-less they get plenty loud without one. (That is also kinda with boom 2 does. It can act as a software amp as well making things much louder, but probably loosing some fidelity, but frankly I coudn't tell)

So to test this could I use a old Onkyo box? with a headphone output that looks like:

Will that work the same as any of the smaller portable amps?

The sound of the music felt hollow for some reason.

With regard to the "hollow" sound, the DT770 are V-shaped so that could be what you are describing?

Sure, the 80 ohms could go amp-less but there are other issues that could cause an odd sound, like impedance mismatch to list one.

Yes you could use that to power them, I'm sure it has plenty of power. If the headphones sound the same to you as with your other amp, you can easily conclude it isn't a power issue and you probably don't like your headphones. However, that little odd amp of yours doesn't seem to really look like it would work very well, if you don't mind could you specify the product, it would help to know.

Yep its a bluetooth receiver. It gets so loud that I don't turn it all the way up most times:

Its def not a propper "amplifier" though

Probably not, their product description gives no info about the amplification unit itself, all I really saw was that it was "high quality" because it supports AptX. Anyways, try to power the headphones with a better amp and see if any difference is made, that way you can conclude the source of the problem.
