It is high time for me to thin the heard, so I finally got around to starting a couple rounds of listening tests.
Unfortunately I have no decent speakers at the moment and my "headphone amp" is probably the weakest link in my chain.
Round 1 is between the Lexicon and the XCD-99 because I am waiting on an auction to end on an Apex DVD player to replace the dead drive in the Arcam. My gut feeling is that the Arcam will end up winning out and staying home while the other two take a hike, but I have not had the chance to listen to the Onyx with upgraded opamps (OPA627 seem the most popular).
Please throw in your vote to guess the winner and let me know your thoughts on the contenders, including suggested mods and the improvements they offer.
