heh...

i'm going to finally have speakers that might sound good compared to my headphones....

one-way, full-range drivers (so no crossovers and phase errors)
...just like headphones.

they'll be powered by my maestrobator

here's a pic:

http://www.cornu.de/gspir/DSCF0005.JPG

they measure 70cm*120cm*20cm and are intended to hang on a wall (like paintings), which makes them unique in that they throw the sound straight rather than being toed in toward the listening position.

anybody here have experience with lowthers?

i'll post impressions of these speakers as soon as i get them.

Is it me or does the driver look like it's got one big ding on it?

I think it's an illusion because you can see the phase plug being obscured properly.

ding? i'm not sure what you're seeing.

have you seen a wizzer cone before?

regardless, he's keeping his drivers, i have a pair of DX3 awaiting their new enclosures already here. (i couldn't afford DX4)

the main difference is a 2.0 tesla magnet instead of 2.2, but the extra .2 (for $1000!!) is supposed to make a huge difference.

maybe one day, i'll take the plunge for the better driver.

BTW there are more pictures in www.cornu.de/gspir

Uh-oh, Ctn's getting ready to stick it to you

Those cabinets gotta be pricey. Just lookat'em! I don't know how functional that spiral cut is though

Weird baffle. Do you consider the cabinet design transmission line or horn?

it's definately a horn. having symetrical horns spiraled around each other makes them more rigid.

the main idea is that the spiralling horns add bass, while the "front" horn loads the wizzer cone to reduce distortions from it (lowther shout)

i got these enclosures for far less than his asking price, because they are prototypes of a redesign (his old "grandspiral" was square and had no fronthorn).

these weren't meant to look pretty. a pretty pair would be full price.

i don't think i should disclose what i got them for (and i don't know what his asking price is going to be)

Ok, just wondering. Because I've seen symmetrical transmission lines before too.

They look pretty neat, but I have issues with all the edges that will cause diffraction. It's definitely a neat cabinet though. Let us know how it sounds!
