I just got my TASCAM DR-05, planning to do some recording stuff...
 
I thought, well, I can record output from DAP's and their amps as well....
 
And so I had some fun doing this, this afternoon
 
I recorded the output of my iPod Classic, from the headphone jack, from amped with, FiiO E01, amped with iBasso D-ZERO with LOD,  and connected digital with usb to Sony PHA-1. (and some cheap speakers, "live")
 
Now, what sounds best?, hehehe.

For the scientists here, there are of course a lot of variables to consider here, also my precision in settings of volumes etc...
 
But can you hear a difference?

Did you use a load (simulated with a pair of resistors, or even better real headphones) when recording from the headphone outputs of the amplifiers, or did you just connect them to the line input of the Tascam without a low impedance load ?

Headphone out directly into the TASCAM, no resistors.

I think it's more about synergy with whatever IEM or headphone you are using.  With my Ipod Classic some IEM's surely sound better amped but some I actually prefer the sound unamped.

Well Spyro, this gives an enormous range of combinations/possiblities....
 
Anyways, these were the combinations:
 
Recording One : The Speakers (obvious)
Recording Two : Deleted
Recording Three: PHA-1
Recording Four: iPod Headphone Jack
Recording Five: iBasso D-ZERO
Recording Six: FiiO E01
