"The firmware version shipped with my particular SlimX iMP-350 is version 2.02 - but I have upgraded it to the latest version available on iRiver America's Web site, version 2.20."

Didn't know that. I'm still on 2.12 (ithink)

I've had my Slimx for about 8 months. It gets used almost daily.
I am only getting about 8 to 10 hours of battery life. I usually just let the thing run without ever jumping around or adjusting anything. I have been running the volume at about 30-35 and I use a total airhead amp. I have noticed that every once in a while that mine won't charge for very long, maybe 4 hours or so. Then I only get about 6 hours out of the batteries.
I got another pair of gum sticks from IRiver lat month. The ones that came with the player are Sanyo 1400mah and the new ones say IRiver and are 1450mah.

I wonder if my VBR mp3s have any effect on battery life. Maybe some straight 320 bit rate files would take less power. I dunno.

I have only upgraded to version 2.02.

When I first got my Slimx, I had the same problem with you on the battery life issue.

The trick is to discharge and charge it a few times. After a while, the batts internal circuit gets warmed up and its capacity increases.

I'm very happy with my Slimx and the battery life now.
