I'm getting serious about resurrecting my Technics SL-1200Mk2's which I bought used (crappy gold spray paint finish included) about 10 years ago but I'm not sure whether or not I should just sell these and move on to some decks in better condition. They've been sitting at my parents' house unused for the past 6 years or so. I've been wanting to get back into DJing but I also eventually want to get a nicer cartridge and start modding one for sound quality.
They both have 1 channel that's out and I believe it's just the RCA's that need to be replaced but here are a few other problems:
- one of them lacks a foot (even the part the foot screws into is beat up and probably too worn out)
- no dustcover/hinges on either
- that awful paintjob
- pitch slider on one needs to be cleaned or replaced
Nothing that can't be fixed, and I believe they make turntable feet that don't need to screw in...but I don't know if these problems will keep coming back or if I got ripped off many years ago.
I understand they're not producing these tables any more, but I'm not sure if their used price has really changed much.
I also would find it hard to believe that Numark has caught up to Technics in the turntable department but I haven't kept up with that scene so I wouldn't know.
My plan is to use these along with the M-Audio Connectiv and my Macbook Pro for a timecode vinyl setup. My mixer is a Tascam XS-8 (same as the euro Ecler Hak 320, supposedly had good SQ in its day) but for home listening I'd want to get a Denon DL110 cart and plug that in through my old Kenwood KA-7100.
My question is...should I dump these (or replace one) or just repair them both? From what I've read, these are common problems especially with them seeing so much use but I don't know whether I should expect worse problems in the future.

Also, does anyone know a trusted repair guy in the Los Angeles area that can service these turntables for cheap?
