Yes, heat is a definite problem. I usually don't have this light on unless I'm wearing the headphones, and when I'm finished I will just set my headphones next to the lamp for a while until it cools.

The 'ribs' on the lamp's stand, along with the cloth netting on the headphone's headband make them very stable. I don't think there is any chance of them falling off under normal circumstances. Also since the lamp stand is bendable I could always just reajust, so it had a larger 'hanging' area. It would be a little better if the lamp's bendable portion was a bit longer.

For now this seems to be a great option. I had always considered hanging my headphones off the 'light' part of the lamp, but the earpads rested on the bottom edge of the lamp, and I figured this would deform the pads. I have seen the cheap 'banana holder' stands, but I think with the UR40's headband a 'towel holder' stand would work better. Although I haven't seen any good ones while shopping.

Here's a pic of the towel holder/stand I'm most interested in:

But Snake didn't mention where he got it. I may just have to settle for this one:

It is from IKEA

I need one with a wide top to rest the headband netting on my UR40's and these are the only two that I've seen that might work. I'd like the second one; it is cheap and easy to get (if I ever go to IKEA), but I'm not sure if the top would be wide enough (I'd rather not use tape for grip).

I actually have a clip-on lamp that I'm not using right now. I never thought to hang my headphones like that!

Seeing your pics makes me really miss my Eggos

I kinda wish I wouldn't have sold them before downgrading, even though I probably wouldn't have used them much.

During one of my random searches yesterday, I noticed that my local Ross (clothing) store had two brushed metal towel stands just like that one. They were $7 iirc.

Buster Sword - I don't think there's much of a point in disassembling my lamp. For now I'll just tro to refrain from using it for lighting. I already have a floor lamp and ceiling light in a 10ftx7ft room.

gshan - Is this the ROSS you are talking about? If so, you can see there aren't any near MN (or in the entire Midwest). I'll just have to look for other alternatives.

I also have considered making one similar to FaRKle. Do you think it would be possible to get black PVC or dye white PVC (rit dye)? BUT I really like the look of the metal towel holders, so I'll probably just pick up one of those.

I spray painted mine with Krylon Fusion. I think it looks cleaner and more slick than regular black pvc. As you can see from the 1st pic, the pipe was pretty white... And it only took me one good coat of the Fusion.
