Pulled it out of the box new. Charged overnight. Plugged into computer to update software. Which it did. Now it's dead. Won't charge, won't turn on, won't reset. Unbelievable. I'm sending it to Apple and I'll be pissed if they send me a refurb unit. Since mine is less than 24 hours out of the box.

You won't get a refurb unit. The iPod is still under warranty. If you have an Apple store in your city, take it in to there, bring the purchase receipt, and they will give you a new one, even if you didn't buy it at the Apple store.

Yeah, I second that.

Actually, I guess if you had the receipt you would've just brough it into the store where you bought it...

Sucks dude... hope you get a new one!

if you haven't taken it back already

press a button with it not on hold and hold it really close to your ear, can you here a faint highpitched noise? if you can, try plugging it into your computer, then unplugging, and then try charging it again.

I was told to charge overnight as well. But in new LiON batteries, you don't need to, even on a new unit. Just amounts to wasted time where you could have been playing with your machine.

Have you tried pushing Menu and Select and holding it for 10 seconds? My iPod froze last night and knowingly push the Menu and Select reset and even though it was dead frozen it restarted.

Let me know if that doesn't handle it. Over the past months I have been getting very experienced with iPod diagnosis so let me know. My brother was selling his 3G iPod he dropped and when it wouldn’t load the software I bought it from him for $50 and fixed it in 3 minutes. I had a new iPod worth about $250 for $50.

Isn't that a bit unethical?

Yup, that was one of the first things I tried. And the hold switch was off as well.

I'm planning to make it down to the Apple Store this weekend.
