I have tried to sell my MG Head OTL-H on a few occasions, becuase it just didnt sound that great to me. A couple years ago, the power plug-in came loose and 2 of the wires broke off. I soldered them back, but it never sounded the same again. Today, I realized that the wires were crossed, thus the problem. So, I soldered the wires on correctly and WOW does this sound better!

The bass is deep, the highs are sparkling and the mids are to die for!!! I bought a new pair of HD-580's, with 600 grills and the 650 cable a couple of months ago. These sound way better than stock! Paired up with a killer trio of tubes (Raytheon 5751, Amperex 6BQ5), this amp sounds fantastic. Man, this combo is simply amazing!

Props to the MG Head!!! A fantastic combo with the HD-580's!

I really like my mg head otl mk 111.I was useing it just about and hour ago with my k501s.The two make a great pair. The k501 really has bass.It just takes a good tube amp to bring it out.

I have the original MG head and it is a great amp. A lot has been said about other amps, but with the right tubes (I use RCA "black plates" NOS), it sounds pretty amazing. Also, upgrading the power cord makes a difference.

I use a MG Head DT with Senn 650s. It's like sinking into rich dark chocolate mmmmm....

I run Telefunken EL84s and a Tung-Sol 5751. I love the rich, lush, and euphonic sound that combo gives but still have to occasionally swap out the Tung Sol for a Sylvannia 5751 (black plate, triple mica) if things get too syrupy

I'm glad you didn't sell it with the wires crossed!

Oogeley,

Glad to hear you've re-discovered this amp. That Raytheon Windmill Getter tube is really out of this world.

Enjoy

The MG OTL was the first amp I ever bought. I can't bring myself to get rid of it.

Me neither. I predict I never will. At $300 it's a good deal, but at $160 used... S C O R E!

Impossible to beat for pure value.
