Okay well I've done a bit of research since last night and have decided on these even though it went above my budget

Auzentech Prelude &
Audio Technnica A700's

Can you guys make any better suggestions for that price range (about $300)

And I don't want Creatives stuff due to the Vista and Drama issues they've had.

The Prelude is a great choice. Good opamp and solid overall.

The A700s are closed cans which is great for gaming, but some people prefer open cans as well. Choice is up to you.

prelude + 595 is another avenue. i had both, preferred the 595s for lans. with the loud noise in the background, the closed cans get really heavy and give this feeling of amplification of the bass from outside the phones which gets annoying after a while.

having said that, 700s are a good choice.
