I just got my first pair of open back cans. I got the Sennheiser HD555, and so far it has been enjoyable. I finally am able to afford to push into the hifi market and will soon be getting rid of my Beats Studio Pro I picked up at a yardsale for $60. The next set that is on its way is Beyerdynaic DT 990 Pro 250. I am looking forward to this set getting here. 
 
Currently I am running an Asus Xonar STX Essens, Schiit Asgard, and the HD555. 
 
I am looking into maybe pushing into the HiFiMan HE-400 or the HE-400i.
 
What is going to be the big difference from my HD555 or the DT 990 to the HE400/i?

You might also look into the HE400S. Hard to beat at $299.00.

I'm slowly getting used to listening to the bass vs feeling it. But it has been enjoyable so far.
