The SA-5000 works very well with my Headamp Gilmore Dynamic V2-SE with silver wiring and blackgates, as many people noted in the impressions thread. I really don't find them to be bright as many have called them. I find the Grado RS-1s to be very similar in treble extension with a bit more texture to the sound than the Sony's have. I tend to listen to the Sony's on the secondary system with the Esoteric CD player and the combination is very good.

By the way I did get the Blackgold cabling.

Nice... it is a great match with the K340. When do they arrive?

If I am very lucky, which I never am, I might have them Saturday in time for the NYC mini-meet but more likely I will have them Monday.

Well they showed up today and are playing as I type. The strengths I found with the stock K340s have been increased exponentially with the Headphile upgrades. The midrange, expecially guitars, is the best I have heard right out of the gate before any burn in of the new cables. The soundstage is significantly better defined now and as wide as I have experienced with headphones. Since they got in early they will be able to make their public debut at the NYC mini-meet tomorrow. If only there was a balanced amp at the meet. Those contempating the upgrades should give them serious consideration as the craftmanship and the resultant sound are well worth the price of admission.

Larry or Philodox can probably detail the process a bit better but it includes the following. The plastic screen is removed and replaced with a thin fabric and the cotton filler is either completely removed or partially removed based on Larry's listening tests and the casing is sealed. The crossover is then tweaked or removed from the circuit, can't remeber which. He also replaced the elastics for me. Hopefully Larry will jump in and clarify the process.
