The connectors are screwy but not bad fairly solid. Most people don't like it if is different or takes a bit of time to get them right. They are not a huge problem . $600 discount I would say yes but totally different. The 500's are brighter and unless you have a powerful amp not as bass heavy.

Ended up picking up a pair of these (Beyer Custom One Pro) for $99 during my local boutique's fire sale. Pretty happy with them. I tried a bunch of cans, including the 99 Neo, Sony WH1000X Mark II, Grado RS2e, Grado GH1, and for the price I could not pass these things up. They sound (to me) as close to the Grado SR225i as any of the ones I tested (other than the RS2e of course).
That being said, I'm still interested in the RS2e. I believe it's a better headphone for sure, and I noticed it had a similar sound signature as the SR225i, but with more detail and stuff. Didn't notice them being "warm" like everyone says, though. They're smooth!
