My Emu 0404 USB arrived today

Did you have your 0404 plugged in before you started installing the drivers?

Try removing the drivers and installing again. The instruction manual describes both removal and installation in detail, just try following it exactly.

Also, update your windows if you have not done so yet. SP2 with latest patches.

Just suggesting the basic stuff, so that we can eliminate potential sources of the problem.

ok i got it working.

wow. big improvement over sound blaster live!

not an audiophile, my first upgrade, the sound is clear and not muffled at high volumes.

but kind of hisses when silent at high volumes, probably the source audio though.

Try playing with the ground lift switches, maybe that'll eliminate the hiss. They are on the bottom, in the front part (where the headphone jack is).

hey I am really looking into buying this DAC, but what I haven't been able to figure out is if it up samples to 24/192, does anyone know?

I couldn't find that option in the basic drivers. You can upsample in foobar, though--probably with better results than any hardware solution could provide.

The E-MU Audio Control Panel has a sample rate setting for 192KHz, but I've never tried to use it

Ok I just bought the DAC from here

https://magnum-pc.com/Products/Overview/?id=M003363368

for a pretty good price, I also sprang for a belkin pure/ av usb cable, I know it may sound n00bish but, audioquest only makes firewire and CAT5e and this one was 4ns silver plated, so I said why not. my only question now is do you guys know if you can hook this DAC up to 360 or did you happen to mention that in happenstance at the beginning of the post because it would be amazing if you could then you could at least listen to music with far better DACs than most.

Oh yeah and another thing if foobar can play Dolby Headphone does it also play movies like oh say in DTS or DVD-A that you could then play through the DAC?

I would like to know if that when you use the device as an external dac by using optical SPDIF, will the sample rate automaticaly adjust when I change the sample rate of the source, in this case laptop? Or do you have to shut the 0404usb down and start up to make it lock to the source sample rate again? That would be a bummer.

I don't want to beat a dead horse, but I know the DAC is stereo and foobar will play Dolby Headphone which simulates surround into stereo headphones, so knowing that, could one do this DVD-A -> Foobar -> 5.1 codec -> Dolby Headphone-> EMU-0404 -> Sennheiser -> Ears =

As long as foobar outputs a stereo signal, I don't see why not.

can foobar read DVD-A or is there like a universal codec for all sound formats including DVD-A or HDCD for foobar?
