so, i just recently received a darkvoice 366i along with these grado sr60s.

wow, im blown away by how resolving and how much detail there is. I can't stop listening to them!

My akg 501s aren't even being used anymore, they just seem so boring and bland now. Granted, I am using the stock tubes that came with my darkvoice but wow. I am truly impressed by these grados! Are the 501s really that bad/Are the Grados really that good? I guess it is mostly dependent upon the music that i listen to... which tends to be rock/punk.

I know what you mean. The grados seem to open up the listening experience. It is like a veil is removed when you listen to grados in comparison to othe phones.I think it is because they have such accented highs.Some people say that is what makes them harsh I think that is what sets them above the other phones.
