Hi hi hi everyone. I've been lurking here for some time, enjoying reading everyone's posts, but I have yet to actually post anything.... until now!

Last night I had a wonderful 10 hours of sleep, but unfortunately woke to found my ex71s in this state...

That dirty cat got to them! Anyway, I tested them out, and they still appear to be functional, but I was wondering what I should possibly do to make them a bit more listenable until I get a replacement pair. The only thing that really looks to be significantly damaged are the little ends. If I just straighten those out, should they be fine, or should I do something else.

...or maybe I should just replace them altogether with something different?

Thanks so much in advance for your suggestions

edit: Also, due to the strange shape of my left ear, I use the smallest latex cover on the left and a medium on the right. Therefore, even though the latex pieces I was using are MIA (Possibly in my cat's stomach?), I have the spares I can replace them with.

Check the cat poop for your rubber canal plugs.

I'd write them off and get something new.

that sucks man! sorry about that, can you still fit one of the other silicon tips on them, or did the cat chew away the connection?

maybe it was your cat telling you it is time to upgrade!

i have had very good luck with the etymotic er6 in-ear canal headphones. they have less boomy bass than the ex70 (which is the precurser to the ex71) and better isolation and detail.

oh, and welcome to the forum. let me just apologize in advance for your soon to be shrinking wallet.

OMG! tough break...

i'll suggest you get yourself a pair of MDR-E888 earbuds. if the EX71 are anything like the EX70, the E888 are a big improvement over them, they're much more smoother and neutral than the EX series.

speaking of pesky cats... a long time ago my brother was taking a trip to visit his girlfriend and needed a pair of phones for the plane trip. so i duly lended him my pair of precious MDR-E484. he came back home with the earphones in shambles, saying her cat got to them.

and i never found another pair!

Don't feel too bad......my dog has eaten 1 pair Ety 4S, 1 pair Ety 4P, 1 pair Sony E888 buds, and 1 pair of Stax SRM -001 MKII. In comparison, you're not doin' too bad at all.

And BTW.......welcome to Head-Fi!

Can we see some pictures of the cat Joe? the pictures of keyboards and half eaten headphones are one thing but I want to see the culprit responsible for this

My dog, Muttley, once ate an entire chicken that was "cooling" on the worktop but he's never eaten any of my audio equipment.

Bring on the the cat..............

whenever my 4' pet iguana feels neglected, she just starts crawling toward my headphone gear box in the living room throwing meaningful glances back at me, which means daddy (me) has to go pick her up. she's like a mini godzilla sometimes, just leaving a trail of destruction behind her. she's never managed to munch any of my cans (yet), but i'd be more worried about her talons puncturing the drivers.

Ahhh, what a dirty evil cat! She was my grandmother's cat, and when we first got her, she didn't really have a name, but my 9-year-old cousin used to call her "Muffin", which my family immediately agreed was a downright dumb name for a cat. After many months, we couldn't really agree on a name for the cat, and just to piss everyone off, I started calling her "Little Muffin", which ended up sticking.

Well, that was an amusing anecdote. I applied the spare latex pieces, and they miraculously fit. The sound of the phones is not quite the same, however. It all sounds a bit shrill...

In any case, once I have the free cash, I'd be interested in getting the etymotic er-6 phones. The only thing I worry about is if they will be comfortable on my aforementioned crazy left ear...

Heh, I thought I was the only one with a crazy left ear. The er6 fits fine in my right ear, but my left ear is just too small (or possibly curved in a strange way) to get an easy fit. I have to fiddle with it for an hour.

That cat sounds my dog's sister, who will chew on everything in site, but only when you're not around. My little angel Pixel would never ever do such a thing.
