My Cambridge 840c may be dying, what would be a good DAC to replace it with? Gungnir?

The transport packed it in on the 840c quite a while ago and I've been using it as a DAC but I think something may be going in the output stage now.  I wonder what a good reasonably priced replacement would be? Shiit Bifrost? Gungnir? Something else? I'm not sure on budget but under $1000 would be good.
