did she get stolen? i had a bike in college i LOVED dearly, it was an old french 10-speed i bought from a townie for 20 bucks and modded with schwinn gear to get that retro boardwalk one-gear backpedaling brake action... but some crap students stole it and used it for a bike derby and at the end of the derby burned it in a pile of dead bikes - someone told me about it and i ran over just in time to ID my dead smoldering bike...I still don't have resolution from that!

I've a trek hybrid for commuting. Reason i let it go is i've not been using her. The guy who bought it was really nice. At least i know it will be looked after. Better to let it be used than be a white elephant. Still it hurts.

I've never heard of a bike derby! What the hell is it? Just a bunch of drunk undergrads racing into each other on 10 speeds or what?!

I had a bike once. I loved it, I rode it all the time, I went mountain biking with it, I kept it in good condition. Then, one day, riding home from soccer, the front wheel disassociated itself from the rest of the bike. Thats right, I went over a bump and the stupid front wheel came off. Bikes don't go very well without a front wheel. I went down, the bike went down, the disconnected wheel bounced along and landed a few feet in front of where I skidded to a stop. Had I not been wearing my helmet my right ear would have been torn up from skidding. Oh, and it hurt all over.

Anyways, I don't ride bikes anymore. I would, but I don't have the money for a new one, and my old one will cost about 250 dollars to fix.

I just have to say, if the front wheel came off than the bike was obviously not in "good condition." Okay, it could easily have been in good condition, but you've gotta make sure that skewer's on there tight man!
