PX200s, even though I don't really like them, walk all over the MX lineup

i beg to differ here. i got my PX200's right when they came out, so i'm still not sure if sennheiser has changed them since i got mine, but to my ear both the PX200's and MX500's sound very similar. there are two main differences, however, which can decide which are better for your needs. first, the MX500's are much clearer, making them better for soft acoustic strumming and other similar music. the PX200's, however, counter by having better impact. not necessarily better bass, but the fact that they're bigger cans just give em a bit more slam for rock and rap. so if you listen to light stuff, go with the MX500's. if you listen to rock, go with the PX200's. if you listen to both soft and loud music, get the PX200's. they're more versatile sonically.

Maybe both my MX400 and MX500 have been over-used then, in the same way that the Sony E888s can be (i'll admit that both the MXx00s have hundreds of hours on them) because both of them have a very unnatural midrange, and a distinct lack of treble with foamies on... else, with them off, just sound very thin and screechy

I checked them out myself some weeks ago and I must agree with djgustashaw. I wasn't impressed with the PX series at all.
I own mx 3/4/500 myself and recenlty bought the HD-590... but now i need an portable amp... I think

I echo djgustashaw's comments. I prefer the sound signature of the mx500/400/300 to that of the PX200, however the PX200 tends to sound "bigger". The the mx series has the edge in comfort and convenience also.

I second duncan; px200 sounds far superior to mx500 to me. But I understand why some people would prefer otherwise.

The PX200 have a strong bass, if placed correctly on the ears. The mids are promients, and the highs a bit recessed.

The MX500 sound brighter and therefore clearer, without being aggressive.

I can understand that some people prefer the MX earbuds because of this. But all in all the PX200 are much superior.
