Hi all,

I'm new here and have a couple of questions. I am thinking of getting some headphones for in my laptop bag to use in the office and am debating between the above two. Can anyone tell me the difference between these?

Thanks,
Robert

i've heard the 400s and the 550s (i've been told 450 is the 550 without the volume control) and i liked the 550 a little more... not much of a OMGHUGE difference nothing that would make me switch if i had either but personally i would buy the 450s... someone else may like the 400s better.... or knowing this place recommend some $100+ IEMs

Originally I thought 400, 450 and 500 were the same thing, just that 450 came with the cord rewind mechanism and 500 came with what 450 had and a volume control. I dunno about the sonic differences though but my 450's high can be little shrill with emphasis on the Ssss. I used it with my Creative MUVO 1GB.

My MX450 doesn't seem to emphasise sibilants - I guess it's the player?

Hi everyone,

I found the MX450's to be physically smaller than the MX400's which allowed me to use the small foam covers which improved the bass.

Sound quality was about the same but MX450's seem to be louder (could be due to the improved fit with the foam covers).

Ray.

Looking back, I think its the recording since I have trouble with those few tracks. I have only 1GB of MP3s since 5 years ago so I know which is which

Anyway its George Michael Jesus to a Child which is the biggest culprit. Maybe it wasn't properly encoded?

My EQ is flat.

I have no sort of experience with encoded audio. I'm attached to PCM.

A small hint about the MX450 -- I think it sounds best without the foams, so that the increased transparency (over the MX4/500s) is preserved.

Also, I nearly don't feel any need to use some bass boost with it!! While it was absolutely needed with the MX500. Oh well, it's the better fit - still, I get soo nice bass...
