I've noticed for some time that recordings I consider favorites have a quality I like (a texture) regardless whether I listen in the car, or with a home speaker system, or with headphones. I think that I can detect this same quality with online samples. Does anyone else experience something like this?

at the current state of online samples, it always negatively impacts what i hear.

but i do know what you mean about texture. live classical orchestral music has so much more texture than i can hear in my rig. especially cellos and bass, which are alarmingly razor-toothed live. they must do something to studio-recorded classical to smooth it out.

then there is styles of rock. the beatles with their loose jangly textures, or the beach boys and their smooth sheen--both melodic rock bands with tight harmonies, completely different textures.
