Try the new John Mellencamp: "No better than this".
Produced by T-Bone Burnett, in mono, but very dynamic....

NO. Just NO. Ok computer is so compressed, so loud, and so undetailed, its not even funny. I had to get rid of the cd because it was just that bad.  That said, I will never listen to radiohead again.

1) OK Computer is probably a shining example of modern production. It's not compressed, there's tons of detail and subtlety... I really have no idea what you're talking about.  Part of the album's praise comes from how ahead of it's time it sounds and feels.

2) Radiohead is a fantastic band and you're missing out

1. This depends on which version you have. I think every version currently available for purchase at stores is mastered too loud and is highly compressed.

2. I've listened to all their albums in various formats and I still feel they are over-rated. Had I not listened to them ever, I wouldn't feel I am missing out.

I wanna know which version(s) of OK Computer is/are not compressed (i.e., among the "not currently available" ones). Same with any of the other discs, really.

The new vinyl re-issue from Capitol sounds quite nice. The original first pressing of OK Computer is supposed to be the best. The catalog number is 7243 8 55229 2 5. I'm sure you can find it on ebay.

I knew it was going to be something like that! My vinyl is in mothballs, sadly. Appreciate the response.

Thanks, LFF -- Gotcha this time -- I was reading too quickly. Even better. I'll keep an eye out on used shops for the CD with catalogue no 7243 8 55229 2 5.  I'd love to hear it, but not in a "seek out and pay lots of money" type way.  I have mixed feelings about the band, but would rather give them a listen in their best light.  It seems like musicians I revere really love Radiohead, so who am I not to be fan? I like them more than most mainstream stuff for sure, but always am left more detached than those who really appreciate them.

Just keep listening to them.  Don't see what there is to try to "get" to them. Which albums have you listened to?

I have yet to see anyone say Bruce Cockburn on vinyl or CD.  Almost anything in his catalogue is great.

Bruce Cockburn "Speechless"  instrumental mainly acoustic guitar.
Rough Trade  "Rough Trade" direct to disc recording  (ltd release back in 70's).
Sister Euclid, all of their cds (lead guitarist Kevin Breit)
Kevin Breit and Harry Manx "In Good we Trust: and "Jubilee"  very good recording and players.
Lucinda Williams "Little Honey"  well recorded, very good female vocals
