I'm sure most of you have heard of YouTube. Recently taken over by google, bandwith expenses of over a million USD a month (Forbes).

I can spend hours on YouTube, just wasting my not so precious time. The site has a very laid back policy when it comes to uploading material, making YouTube music video heaven among other things.

I'm hoping people will post and that this thread can evolve into a nice library of the cultural expression that is music videos (live clips are nice too)!

Oh, sound quality sucks more often than not, so brace your ears

Here I go:
---------
Bob Dylan - Subterranean Homesick Blues - Some people dare call this rap music.

Eels - Novocaine for the soul - He's wearing cans!

OK Go - Here It Goes Again - Proof of a good idea being all you need.

Beastie Boys - Sabotage - Moustaches!

The Verve - Bitter Sweet Symphony - A walking song with a walking video

Blue Oyster Cult - Don't Fear The Reaper
- Seen the parody with Will Ferell? Here's the real deal.

David Bowie - Life on Mars - Scary to think of my dad having this hair cut once upon a time.

Pet Shop Boys - Go West! - I had this on cassette!

Mr. T - Treat your mother right! - I pity the fool

I've been going pretty nuts over Youtube, too. Seems like a good way to check out bands to see if you'll like the music.

Here are some of my favourite youtube vids:

Joy Division - Transmission (live, with some bonus John Cooper-Clarke)

David Bowie - Heroes (live)

Nine Inch Nails - The Day The Whole World Went Away (live)

Cranes - Beautiful Friend (music video)

Louis Armstrong - A Kiss To Build A Dream On (live)

Skinny Puppy - Monster Radio Man (fan-made video)

The Cure - The Figurehead (demo with archival footage)

blessingx, the devo's were absolutely hilarious. Someone please tell me where to get a hat like that.

dabblerblue, what a treasure that Joy Division clip is. The intensity... Goose bumps.

Have more lined up:
-------------------
Radiohead - Pyramid Song - I've always felt submerged in water when listening to this song. Even before I got to see the video.

Air - All I need - My heart bounces through my shirt. Show this to your girlfriend/boyfriend and tell her/him how much you appreciate her/him. Should score you some points.

16 Horsepower - Haw - Yeehaw!

Meshuggah - New Millenium Cyanide Christ - Who said metal heads take them selves too seriously?

Boards of Canada - Dayvan Cowboy - No fancy stuff, just the elements. Awesome.

Ron Burgundy - Afternoon Delight - "If you don't think this song is the greatest ever, I will fight you."

Thanks for contributing. Loads of good stuff, liked Stone Roses, Beth Gibbons and Julee Cruise in particular. And the princess did of course cause a good laugh.

-------------------
Jaga Jazzist - Animal Chin and Day - Norwegian nu-jazz, check it out.

Anekdoten - From Within, Live At the Rehearsal Room - Seen these guys+girl live, best prog experience I've had.

Paatos - Hypnotique (live) - Incredible. My best posting yet.

Edit: Found one more by Paatos from the same live performance, Gasoline

King Crimson - Larks Tongues in Aspic (live) - Love this album.

Roky Erickson - Two headed dog & Starry Eyes (live) - So real.

Daniel Johnston on 'The Cutting Edge' - From when MTV was about music, hey they even discovered this genius. One more: It's spooky

Genesis - Land of confusion - Confusing indeed.

Men Without Hats - Safety dance - What is this kind of dance?

Mr. Bungle - Air Conditioned Nightmare (live)
- Bass player's cute.

Yea, I love Autechre but they have really changed their style over the years. Basscadet is one of their earliest works. I recommend you start with the albums Amber and Tri Repetae.

If I was starting over I'd go: Amber -> Incunabula -> Tri Repetae

Edit: I can never spell that right first try...

That's funny, I had no idea!

"Peculiarly, the video was initially banned by MTV on the grounds of being misogynistic as it did not have any women in it. Despite protests from the band's management and counter-accusation of homophobia as there were plenty of other videos of all-male groups on the channel which did not have women in them, or used them in a sexually objectifiying manner, the video was re-edited to have a black female (long-time Pet Shop Boys backing singer Sylvia Mason-James ) dressed as the Statue of Liberty."
