I have two computers plug into my speaker setup.  When the second system is on the volume is reduced.  Is this normal?

Primary system --optical--> FiiO D3 --RCA--> Dayton Sub Line in/out --RCA--> Audio Engine A2s

Secondary system --3.5mm to RCA--> Dayton Sub.......(see above)

The two systems are connected to the Sub with these:

I get the same reduction in volume if I plug secondary system directly into the Audio Engines by passing the Sub.  But of course the volume of the sub is not affected.

For reference:

Sounds like an output volume level difference in the audio driver setup menu.  Check your device volume levels and make sure they are the same.  There is of course the chance that the output voltage is different even at similar output volume levels ( computer output device volume ) which will also explain the difference.  I say adjust the output volume to sound the same and your problem should go away.

Yes that is normal for what is a Y adapter.  Something about cutting the voltage in the inputs in half think.

I checked the output levels, did not seem to affect anything.  But the output volts could be different since one is off a mobo and the other is from the FiiO D3.  Though I would tend to think the volts would be higher off the mobo than off the D3.

I could understand this if it where on the output side.  Just didn't expect it on the input side.
