Hey guys, long time reader, first time poster - don't worry about the wallet for now

I'm looking at getting some MS-1's, and I'm getting alot of people saying that the type of pads will change the sound alot for them. Firstly what changes with what pads are likely? any experiences or opinions? is there much comfort difference between the pads as I hear the MS-1's aren't the most comfortable on the market.
Thanks guys, you really do have an excellent community here

the ms1 come with comfies
they're a bit heavy in the bass and have limited soundstage

the most popular pad is the bowl
they come stock with every grado except the sr60, ms1, and gs1000
they have less bass, more soundstage and have an airy-er sound
however, i feel that they don't provide enough slam

then you got the flats...they're pretty popular, but expensive
i haven't heard em

and then the famous, yellow hd414 pads
very similar to the comfies, but cheaper

Running electrical tape around the edge of the bowls provides more bass slam.

My MS1's came with bowls and flats. I prefer the flats but they are pricey.

mm I feel that the Bowls are better than the comfies (quarter-modded) in the bass region. Maybe its just me... But I get plenty of slam and satisfaction

I've used all the pads on my MS-1s and HF-1s and have stuck with the stock pads on both. The flats just have way too much bottom and the bowls are a little too tinny for me on the MS-1s. You can always buy and try, but you may just end up using what they come with.

thanks for all the replies guys! i think ill see how i like the comfies because ill probably be having a few extended sessions with these. are the 414 pads reasonably comfortable? Heavy bass is not overly important to me, accurate impact for me is what i preffer. Also I probably won't need too much soundstage as I have ad700's for those. Cheers guys
