I've noticed that some have that box transformer cover and some do not, I was wondering what the significance of this is?

Back in the early Singlepower days they did not have a cover. Some of the head-fi members commented the amp would look better with a transformer cover. So, Mikhail added a transformer cover for cosmetic reasons. But, some members like myself wanted some amps without the transformer cover .... so there are amps like that too. My reason for skipping the transformer cover on a couple MPX3's was so I had clearance in my Sanus rack. Plus, I like the look of the "naked" transformer.

Here you see a MPX3 without a transformer cover and a PPX3 SLAM with a transformer cover. Before I added the wood finish racks I used to put the PPX3 inside my Sanus rack. The PPX3 would still fit inside my rack with the transformer cover. So I kept the cover on the PPX3.
