Why is 320 kbit/s the highest mp3 bitrate? What if I wanted 500? Just curious.

320kbps is the highest? Cause from what I know 384kbps is the highest.
That is also what I read out of the ISO/IEC-11172-3 standard in the MPEG-1 article on Wikipedia.

You can use something that can encode in free format to go up to 640K, but that doesn't work on, well, anything.
