Hello everyone. Will converting mp3s to alac/ apple lossless in my itunes library actually improve sq or will it be pointless and just make the file bigger? If it just makes the file bigger do you have any suggestions for getting the lossless sound quality.

Thanks

Hey,
as it is, with "converting" you won't add anything in terms of quality. It would be the same audio in a bigger container. So pretty pointless.
For getting lossless audio there are some ways:
1. Rip your own CD's
2. buy music from hdtracks.com

Just to name two. You will in any way have to aquire higher quality file and won't be making your mp3's any better with converting them.

Edit: Beaten by 10 seconds ^^

Like people say, it's pointless.

If you want to use lossless sq in your iDevice, you can convert any lossless audio format (flac, ape, wav etc.) to ALAC, or rip CD's.

Generally Lossless codecs works like archiving tools, Lossy formats (mp3, aac... ) - like cutting inaudible sound frequency + archive. In details its more complicated.
