just thought fellow head-fiers would be interested...

i notice a new feature in the latest range of mp3 players

FM recording

i like this feature as i want to record long dance mixes broadcasted by my local radio station

below is the list of mp3 players that feature FM recording

amac han-230uvs
archos ondio
archos jukebox fm recorder
coxon iaudio cw200
digital innovations neuros hd
fuxion genie
fuxion rainbow
frontier labs nex ia
iriver ifp-100 series
iriver ifp-300 series
mpio fl100
nextway nmp-412
nextway nmp-512
nowevolution ev-256nfx
sims digital svr-m3645v

quite a long list, i didn't think there would be so many mp3 players with this function, or so many brands that i didn't heard of...

sadly, most of these mp3 players are not available in singapore

some things to note

some of these players above do not record directly to mp3, and some do not allow uploading back to the pc

i have the iRiver iFP-390T and you can record FM up to 128kbit/44hz. The built-in radio is the best of all portable products I've sampled, plus the FM recordings sound 99% as good. Great product. No uploading restrictions either (using the UMS Firmware at least)

edit :

I should point out that you can record from the Line-In port at up to 320kbit

Double that !

iFP-3XX series are quite a vast improvement on recording issues and bitrates, over 1XX series and some of the brands/ models above listed which we reviewed before.

Well, we still can't find a comparable as yet.

Sansa e280 = 512kbps wav only; good fm tuner
Sansa Fuze+ = 1411kbps wav only; great fm tuner
Benjie x1 = both wav and mp3 recording modes, 4 settings each 512-1536 & 192-32
Ruizu x20 = wav & mp3 recording same choices; some monitor hum at high volume.
The x20 sample rate is 32000 @ 192kbps mp3.
