i plan to ask for an MF V-DAC for christmas. my question, is it not worth upsampling mp3's below 256kb, because of the artificial frequency multiplier and the re-timing issues of the source. for example it will remove the sloshing sound on low bitrate mp3's at the expense of warmth? i'm hoping the mp3s at 256kb/s 44.1Khz will be sufficient.

i hear a slight bit of sibilance with female voices using Winamp sonic extraction engine, however overall it is fine.

If you're going to be investing in a dac, I suggest using higher quality mp3s or flac. Upsampling will be very very subtle if not useless.
