So I've had the grado sr60s for about a half year now and ive liked them a lot. I want to make my next headphone purchase and i was thinking i want to get something on the other end of the headphone spectrum. I want some phones for listening to hip hop and some bassier stuff. I was looking at the senn hd 280s but i really dont know. Anyone care to help out a rookie?

Beyerdynamic DT770 Pros have great bass. You might want to check those out.

I was thinking closed due to the grados being open and anywhere below $150 is my range

Sounds like a used pair of dt770's and an amp is in your future. You might also look at the akg k81dj, and the equation rp-21 or rp-22x

also another question, is a standard home reciever all that i need for an amp? Im a student on a pretty small budget so whatever i can cut out will help.

Depending on how nice the receiver is, it should be fine. The dt-770's dont Require an amp, but you can always add one later to increase the sound quality 10 fold.
