very suprised! as winamo so highly thought of by people.

used both with no eq (default on winamp and flat on itunes)

so much more detail now although winamp gave more volume.

same earphones used for last few months and same laptop so no changes in hardware etc- just ituned installed today

Were you playing identical file at least? What version of Winamp did you use?

winamp 5 on a decent spec laptop (standard crappy soundcard)

yup same songs came up on the shuffle and just detail as the two buds had more sound "moving around" them if you know what i mean (soundstage?) and a female singers voice just sounder so more clearer on one track for example..

read up on foobar - confusing

why bother when:

Does foobar2000 sound better than other players?
No. Most of "sound quality differences" people "hear" are placebo effect (at least with real music), as actual differences in produced sound data are below their noise floor (1 or 2 last bits in 16bit samples). Foobar2000 has sound processing features such as software resampling or 24bit output on new high-end soundcards, but most of other mainstream players are capable of doing the same by now.

Did you try Winamp with in_mpg123 and Otachan's out_ks33 plugins? They bypass kmixer etc. iTunes uses DirectSound, and only DirectSound. On my system I can clearly hear a difference.

The price of good audio can be some time spent in setup. You don't have to like it; you just have to do it. You will see.
