Here is the first proper review of audio capabilities of Motorola ATRIX  by gsmarena. It tuns out ATRIX has very good RMAA numbers. Considering that it has Tegra 2 , it is not difficult to accept the fact that it might indeed have good audio quality. I heard that all Tegra 2 devices have Wolfson audio chip inside.

It is interesting to note that Optimus 2X which has identical hardware scored lower than ATRIX.

Has anyone listened to ATRIX? I wonder if it can my replace my Vibrant with voodoo sound.

My (sold) Motorola Droid/Droid 2 had excellent SQ, and the volume wasn't half bad either. I'm not surprised at their findings,...but I'm not too sure it'll beat the Vibrant + Voodoo sound. I'd stick w/that if I were you.

I use my Atrix with the IE8 & PowerAmp and love it. I stay under 12/15 because it gets ugly in a hurry but there's plenty of volume before that point. I now leave my iPod Classic in the car for the Alpine and only carry one device for all my needs. Never heard Vibrant & Voodoo though, sorry.

So glad that headfier has the device on his hands.

Can you say something more specific about Atrix sound quality? For instance I heard that Atrix has some sound "enhancers" on all the time. I also heard that bass is slow. Can you confirm that?

You have a link to where that was discussed? I can not confirm slow bass or sound "enhancers" that are on all the time. There are some built in effects that you can use in the stock music player but I haven't touched that player since my first 10 minutes with the phone. I did however notice a bass hump before ever looking at that frequency response graph on gsmarena (tested with other headphones and stereos so not IE8's fault) but I use PowerAmp EQ to fix that.

I also own an Atrix but I'm looking on an alternative portable source. There is not a lot of information about it. It's known that it uses a Wolfson 8903 L chip for DAC but i've red somewhere that this is an entry level Wolfson chip and SQ may not be the best. For instance I feel that the N81 has overall a better SQ. As a player I use Poweramp, which can play FLAC and has some equilazer options, though not many. Maybe when the bootloader will be unlocked to custom roms we can have a special version of Voodoo Control in order to get the best of the audio quality of the wolfson chip.

Yes, you are right :) But, for now is sitll a bit risky to update to custom 2.3.4 alphas. I'm waiting for the official version before starting to experiment. Hope they make an updated version of Voodoo Control.

Would using the Atrix as my main portable source combined with an E11 and the HD650 (later on K702s for portability) be a decent idea?

Also, what is the best Android FLAC player that includes decent EQ settings?

It doesn't have any EQ settings, nor a decent UI, but "andLess" plays lossless files. Very basic UI. Kinda like the foobar2000 for Android.. ish.

I really think my Atrix sounds better than my v.2 Fuze and 4th gen iPod Touch. I'm convinced.

I just had a thought. I wonder if while using the media dock with one of the 3 USB ports, if you could hook up a DAC of some sort, or is there something like the CL A Solo that could be used with the micro USB port of the phone itself? Thoughts? Ideas?

Update. Seems there is an app called 'Power AMP' which gets great reviews. Alac and flac support. Much nicer UI. It is a 15 day trial version. The unlocking app is just a touch over $5US. May have to give it a try soon.

I have ordered it, waiting to arrive on Monday. Any mods for sound quality like Voodoo Sound?
