Motherboards sp\dif line out good?

I wonder how good are the digital outs on the majority of motherboards with onboard soundchip? For use with an external DAC...

edit: seems i've posted in the wrong section, sorry..

I heard its not bad, but it isnt too good either.

Get a lynx l22 and slave its 256word to a dac. It should be pretty good.

Yeah, but it's a 600$ card...

I allready have an audigy 2, i was wandering if the sp\dif on the motherboard will be better then the audigy2's sp\dif or other under 100$ soundcard...

At least you want an S/PDIF output that does not resample the signal.
Yes, even without changing the output rate stuff is resampled on certain cards.
The card needs to be bit-perfect.

Then maybe some half-decent clock and stuff will sounds quite OK?

If you can find ASIO drivers or something that allows you to bypass directX then onboard sound for digital out is actually quite often better then other cards. Mind you there are good soundcards out there too which do the job better.
