I think this could be quite interesting

do you know those songs where only the opening chords are needed for an entire generation to know the words that follow? that make a crowd go wild before a single word is sung?

I can come up with two for now, but I bet some of you guys remember a couple more:

Yeah, this is the first day in several weeks that I've had to read through Head-Fi thoroughly; and this is one of the many threads that caught my eye, and one that can be answered quickly.

There's a story here...
I went to one of the private schools here...hence..I was a junior and the seniors had set up their speakers and amps on our courtyard. As the last bell rang before lunch, we(this was an all male school) were stopped in our tracks as we exited our classrooms to the beginning of Van Halen's first album. We rushed out only to be greeted by that veering guitar sound followed by the thump thump thump of some cool bass. what the hell?...Eddie began to play his riff........then distortion....apparently, the hot Hawaiian sun had warped some dude's Van Halen album....when the album folded, we all cheered.

the bass drone at the beginning of Das Rheingold (the low e-flat then the open fifth... just.... gets me everytime) then of course there is the little, 8 HORNS, "riff"

the high bassoon at the beginning of Le sacre du printemp

the high 8 part violin split at the beginning of Lohengrin

oh yeah, and all guitar/keyboard parellel unison/thirds/sixth between petrucci and DM theater keyboardists
