Most Depressing Album?

Two painfully depressive albums are Fashionably Late by Linda Thompson (the raspy voice, the lyrics of inescapable fate, of imagined salvations and real losses -- they coalesce into a crystal that radiates negative energy), and A Secret Live by Marianne Faithful (where she is helped by Angelo Badalamenti, the Baron of Darkness in film music)

Darkwood is an excellent mood album, and so is River by Darling and Bjornstad.

Second the above. Very depressing stuff indeed.

Years ago, a friend had a Richard and Linda Thompson album that they put out while their marriage was falling apart. It sounded great, but full of bitter, depressing songs. Can't remember the name of the album.

Pink Floyd - The Wall

Pretty much the entire Joy Division oeuvre.

While I know "Love Reign O'er Me" is supposed to be the redemptive moment at the end of the rock opera, The Who's Quadrophenia always leaves me with a bleak misanthropic feeling. Same with Tommy. Methinks Mr. Townshend has some demons.
